Big retreat state fightfield is a place along the Nez Perce state Historic Trail, and is located 10 miles west of Wisdom, Montana, along Montana Highway 43.
In 1877 the Nez Perce Indians were camped in the Big retreat sphere when they were attacked by United States troops under the instruct of Col. John Gibbon. The place of this campaign (some 655 acres) is managed nowadays by the state commons advantage.
