The 26,607 acres that make up the Gateway state Recreation sphere actually continue through 3 total New York City boroughs (cheery spit troop, Jamaica Bay troop, and Staten Island troop) and up into northern New sweater (filthy Hook troop).

The square skin beaches, marshes, islands and the waters of the New York marina part. Visitors and municipal residents can have a open form of recreational opportunities, counting camping, climbing, bicycling, horseback riding, bird scrutiny, swimming, boating, fishing, vehicle touring, orderly sports and warden-led programs. The filthy Hook troop, in New sweater, offers beaches, plants and fauna, and historic structures like the filthy Hook Lighthouse, which was built in 1764, and is the oldest operational light in the trooped States.

Gateway state Recreation spheres sites are open year-around from sunrise to sundown. Most sites have continueed hours during the summer. Permits for certain after-hours activities are vital.
